FAQs

  • What kind of bike should I have?

Safety is always going to be our number one, so a bike with disc breaks is a minimum requirement. Otherwise make sure your riders bike is in good working order with a pre-season tune up and regular maintenance, we recommend Great Northern Cycle and Ski or Sportsman & Ski Haus. We do climb so a quality bike with the appropriate gears and suspension will make all the difference for the rider.

  • What gear do I need?

    Again, safety first!

-A downhill rated full-face helmet is highly recommended

-Neck brace and/or chest protector, also recommended.

    -Knee pads

    -Sturdy flat-soled shoes or clips

Keep in mind that this gear is generally required to race anyway.

  • Is competing required for the Crown Gravity Team?

Competition is not required but enthusiastically supported. If your rider wants to sign up for the Crown Gravity Team and get faster for the fun of it, that’s fine by us!

The events ‘schedule’ are possible competitions, there is certainly no requirement to attend. However, most race series require a minimum number of races to be considered for overall standings.

  • How 'good' do I need to be?

We know how quickly kids pick things up so we don’t count anyone out, however this is not intended to be a learn to ride program. Again, this comes down to safety and being able to manage a group. Your rider should have trail experience, be able to stand on their peddles, and safely brake on day one.

  • How much travel is involved?

Travel is not required (outside of the valley).

Attending competitions and races, outside of our local series, does mean travel. Most parents in the valley are accustomed to traveling for youth sports, and bike racing is no different. Check out the schedule and see what interests your family.
